| About |
The Collectible Business Card Game is the social game of SIGGRAPH 2009.
How does it work? First, collect business cards from your fellow attendees. Any real-life business card is legal – except your own! Second, sit down with one or more friends and play our simple negotiation-based card game. Use your cards to found a startup company and then develop a product. The first player to develop three "cool features" wins!
On this wiki, you can read about the game rules, follow updates, and suggest new rules.
1. Collect
As in all collectible card games, players need to collect and construct their own deck of cards before they can participate in the actual play sessions.
However, we'll have some trial decks on hand at the Players' Lounge, in case you haven't had time to build your own.
Collecting cards for the Collectible Business Card Game is easy, because that's what conference attendees already do all day! Simply gather as many business cards as you can. If you're lucky, snatch cards from some of the "power players" in the industry.
Many players find the collection phase just as amusing as the actual play sessions. You're encouraged to show off your impressive "rare" cards to your friends!
To reward the most diligent collectors, we'll be handing out prizes for the most impressive deck. For further information, visit the Prizes section.
2. Play
Playing the CBCG is simple but fun. Players confronts friends and strangers in small "play sessions" whenever they want at the conference. The game can take as little as 10-15 minutes to play, and is designed for two or more players.
The goal of the game is to found a startup company using employees from your deck of business cards, and then produce three "cool features" to launch your product.
But the key thing to understand is that CBCG is just as much a discussion exercise as it is a purely competitive game. Because real-life business cards don't come with their own ready-made own game values, players will have to specify and debate everything from the power level of each card to the rules of the game itself. This is what we call an open source game
Look at the Rules section for a detailed description of the rules and examples.
Haven't collected enough business cards to make a deck? No problem! We'll have "trial decks" on hand at the players' lounge. Stop by!
3. Create
CBCG is an "open source" game, meaning that everybody can participate in the design of the game. We believe that the collective creativity of all attendees at SIGGRAPH will trump any ideas the design team could have developed themselves, help us prove that we are right.
Take a look at the Participate page for information on how to get involved in the game, even before the conference begins!
Remember, anyone can edit this wiki. Learn how.
